New year - new trends

By: William MacDonald - January 23rd, 2007

My New Year gift to our faithful readers is to midsummer-cameo.jpgmake sure they all know what will be hot and trendy in 2007. Some of the items I’ll mention are very simple, some very expensive—naturally—and some just plain useful. The one thing that they all have in common is that they’re all on my 2007 must-haves list.

Bamboo. Anything made of, or inspired by, renewable of woods is too cool for words.

Wallpaper. Just get pasted!
Faux fur. Get pillows or a throw. For real extravagance, choose a cozy bed jacket!
A fantastic iron. I like Rowenta’s Master Steam Generator. Yes, even I have found the hidden delight of ironing my own napkins.
An antique carpet. The hand-knotted ones from the Syrah region of Iran. With such beauty there is hope.
A chic suitcase. For hauling back all the loot you found scouring those shops in Calabria. I love my Tumi Tech in silver and so did the nice man at customs.
adler.jpgReal Art. No more impressionist posters from university or prints of roosters or Italian clowns throwing pasta around. Get some real pieces from real artists. It’s time!
An over–the–top Baroque gilded mirror. Try it in the kitchen!
A Hermes calfskin notebook, for jotting, sketching and looking great on your desk. (Remember, if you want it monogrammed, and you do, turn around time is six weeks!)farrow-and-ball1.jpg
Fresh flowers by your bed—even if it is just one in a water glass do it. It changes everything.

Please reconsider encouraging people to use genuine fur accents in their homes. An article I read in a publcation in my veteranrian’s office indicated that many pelts are imported from countries where, I believe, due to impoverished living conditions, animals have been known to be skinned alive. With thanks, Barb

I agree with you wholeheartedly Barb! Horrible horrible industry… definitely should NOT be encouraged!!

On a lighter note, this blog is really amazing! About time there was something out there geared to us ladies in true Canuckle form and fashion…
    Keep up the great work!
